Interesting brain facts you haven’t heard yet

Have you ever thought how and from where thoughts come to our mind when at midnight especially when are trying to sleep?  The most obvious answer is the brain. But did you know why it comes and the purpose of such thoughts.

The human brain or Dimag is the largest and most developed brain of all vertebrates relative to body size. The brain is the command center of the human body. It is responsible for all nervous system activities. But it is not exactly what we think; the process of the brain is more in our body. Sometimes it does extra activities which may are daunting to us. So in this article, we will discuss those facts which are new to everyone.

Fact 1- Sleep

The function of sleep is still a mystery and the reason it happens to us.  However, with modern research scientists are giving clues that sleep is the act of the brain. Sleep helps to recharge our body, a clear waste of the brain, increase memory, and support learning ability. Moreover, sleep helps in regulating libido, minerals, and appetite.

Sleeping is not simple as it seems, it is an integral part of our life and it is more complex than we think. Research shows that the brain has two types of sleep:

  1. Slow-wave sleep (SWS)
  2. Rapid Eye Movement (REM) or dreaming sleep

Most of the time we sleep under SWS variety, it can distinguish by relaxed muscles, slow and deep breathing, large and slow brain waves that help the brain and body to recuperate while sleeping. While the sleeping brain does not completely turn-off by it goes on recovery mode. A series of highly orchestrated activities puts the brain to sleep in stages. It starts in the brain areas that later produce SWS. The reason behind the SWS phenomenon is the activity of two group cells- the ventrolateral preoptic nucleus in the hypothalamus and the parafacial zone in the brain stem. These cells when triggered can lead to loss of consciousness.

REM is the next stage after SWS. In this mode, brains become slightly active while the body and muscles remain inactive. Also, it turns breathing and heart rate erratic. The REM sleeps is still a mystery, despite our advancement and understanding of science.

However, the reason behind this sleep is a small group of cells called the subcoeruleus nucleus. REM sleep occurs when these become diseased or injured. It does not cause muscle paralysis. This can lead to serious sleep behavior disorder, it is a serious condition that afflicted violently act out their dreams.
